Julian Alaphilippe has finished second on his debut at Liège-Bastogne-Liège back in 2015, but he has not however managed to improve on that result in the meantime. This Sunday he will return to the fourth monument of the season, after two years where he's contested the final sprint but couldn't manage to take the win he's ambitioning.
Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team has had a bad spring results wise, with the cobbled classics block being hampered by ilnesses. At the recent Paris-Roubaix, the team heavily suffered from crashes who took several of their leaders out of contention in crucial moments of the race. Julian Alaphilippe and Remco Evenepoel haven't been able to strike in the Ardennes classics, but the World champion's fourth place at Flèche Wallone points towards good form, which he will use towards another stint at La Doyenne.
Team DS Klaas Lodewyck has said: “We have a squad more or less similar to the one that was in action on Wednesday, riders who know the parcours and have a lot of motivation coming into the race. We can count on the World Champion, we have several other guys who can go on the offensive, so the feeling is good and hopefully we will get a nice result on Sunday as we bring down the curtain over the Spring Classics."
