2025 marks the debut season for the
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe Rookies team. Among the squad for this year's campaign is 21-year-old Scottish talent
Callum Thornley, although it seems he won't be there for too long as the former Trinity Racing star has been confirmed as the history-making first rider ever to make the leap to the Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe World Tour team.
“He’s proven in a very short time what can be achieved with determination, skill, and the right attitude," comments Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe CEO
Ralph Denk in
a press release on the team's official website, after it was announced that Thornley would be promoted to the World Tour ranks for the 2026 season and beyond. "He’s absolutely earned this contract,” Denk adds.
“It feels totally surreal. If someone had told me a year ago that I’d be signing a contract before the end of April - I never would’ve believed them,” Thornley admits in his own comments to his team's website. “It’s crazy: everything’s changing, but at the same time, nothing changes. I’ve got the contract I’ve dreamed of my whole life, and yet it’s still all about giving everything in training and winning races. It’s just an incredible feeling.”
With the promotion secured and Thornley already able to look ahead to the coming years competing against the very best in the world, the Scot is starting to dream about which races he might be at the startline of. “I’d love to ride the Tour de France one day,” he says, before grinning: “I know I’m no Pogacar - but I want to see just how far I can go. And if I can raise my arms in a few of the big ones - that would be pretty epic.
“This is a huge moment - not just for Callum, but for our entire project. When one of us takes the next step, it reflects the hard work, dedication, and belief of the whole team," adds John Wakefield, Director of Development at Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe in conclusion. "We’re all absolutely thrilled for him."
