For the typical non-runner,
Mathieu van der Poel's speed on two legs is quite high. The cyclocross World Champion is not only a tremendous athlete on the bike, but also an active runner - and swimmer, as recently revealed by his training group. Van der Poel has posted his first Strava activity in almost three years.
The Dutchman left the popular activity tracking app, commonly used by plenty riders, altogether - not even posting his activities without power data, cadence or heart rate. Hence, it came as a big surprise for fans to see the
Alpecin-Deceuninck back active on the app this Thursday morning, with a run of 10 kilometers, which he did in 33 minutes and 52 seconds. Overall, a pace of 3:22min/Km.
And in the afternoon, van der Poel did a 45-minute indoor ride on Zwift, averaging over 250 watts, and averaging 116 of heart rate and average cadence of 93. Hence he is currently still in the off-season, unlikely to be putting on some serious training. His return to cyclocross is still a question that remains unanswered, but this most likely will happen in late December during the Christmas block, as the Dutchman should be present in a team training camp in Spain throughout the month, as happens with most teams.
