After a thrilling race,
Lars van der Haar was edged out by
Eli Iserbyt on the final lap at
Superprestige Ruddervoorde. Afterwards however, the Dutchman had a confused look on his face.
"I tried an attack half way through, but it was very disappointing. After a lap leading, you will find yourself in a lot of trouble here," the 32-year-old recapped in his immediate post-race interview. "I also couldn't get into my pedal for a while, and then you end up at the back of the race."
Van der Haar actually entered the last lap with a narrow advantage over Iserbyt and Michael Vanthorenhout, but a brutal attack by the eventual winner left van der Haar unable to respond. "In the final I kept driving, because if they made a mistake behind me, I might be gone, but alas," he lamented. "At the end I just put pressure on them so that they couldn't play the team game. And I had the hope that with a good passage I could get a gap. However, they were too strong."
"Sometimes I made a mistake when you really least expected it. That was a shame. I also hoped to get a little more space on the sand, but unfortunately I often had to cycle after it," van der Haar concludes. "We were just talking about it in the tent: all three of us don't understand it. I was at the limit, they were at the limit, and yet everything came back again and again. I have no idea why, maybe you could ride to someone here. With the wind against you, you had an advantage here if you were in the wheel."
