Tom Pidcock had to settle for third place in the Gavere
World Cup. Despite a good start, the British rider could not beat
Mathieu van der Poel and
Wout van Aert in the closing laps.
"I just wasn't strong enough," Pidcock said in the post race interview. He continues, "It was a very tough race, the last laps I really felt it. Especially in the running sections. I also really had problems clicking back in afterwards."
During the race, van der Poel, van Aert, and Pidcock rode together for a short time, but van der Poel dropped the duo, creating a gap. Despite Pidcock's efforts, he was unable to catch the Dutchman."At one point I did, when I got to him. But on the run sections my bike felt heavier and heavier.”
Due to the rain, the race course had become muddy, forcing riders to walk, and it wasn't Pidcock's best moment. “It felt like I was carrying a car on my shoulder. It would be nice if my bike had a car engine. But anyway, in the last laps my legs were just running out," concluded Pidcock.
