On Sunday,
Krawatencross Lille played host to Round 7 of the
X20 Badkamers Trofee, delivering an exciting day of racing with
Laurens Sweeck
emerging
as the winner in the men’s event. The fast-paced circuit made it extremely difficult to create
gaps early on, leading to a tight and tactical race. Both Eli Iserbyt and
Laurens Sweeck managed to briefly open up an advantage, but it soon became
clear that the decisive moves would only come in the final laps.
The closing stages of the race provided a lot of action,
with several riders hitting the front in an attempt to secure victory. Eli
Iserbyt launched a fierce attack in the final half-lap, trying to distance his
rivals, but his lead was not substantial enough heading into the finishing
straight.
Having started his sprint too early, he lacked the power to
hold off a surging Sweeck, who came around to take the win.
For Sweeck, a 31-year-old Belgian rider and the 2020
national champion, this victory marked yet another highlight in an already
impressive season. Reflecting on his performance, he said, "I felt that
there was a lot to it, but I couldn't look behind me, whether they were right
on my wheel or not. So it was just sprinting to the finish. Then it was a
matter of briefly looking under the arm to see if it was good. Then it was
bingo."
With this victory, Sweeck has now claimed seven wins this
season, further cementing his strong form throughout the winter. "It is
indeed a very nice season in terms of victories. Yesterday was a bit less, but
seven victories in a season, that is certainly not bad," he added.
His consistency has also been evident in the Superprestige
series, where he has secured three wins this season. With multiple successes
across different competitions, Sweeck can take plenty of confidence from his
performances this season as he continues to establish himself as one of the top
riders in the field.
