Laurens Sweeck outsprints Aerts and Iserbyt to thirlling Krawatencross Lille finale - Lucinda Brand wins women's X2O Badkamers Trofee race

The Krawatencross Lille was round number 7 of the X2O Badkamers Trofee and here Lucinda Brand came to take another win in the women's race despite having the classification already won. In the men's race there was another exciting and tight battle, ending with a victory of Laurens Sweeck.
The very fast circuit led to tight racing and to create gaps would be a mammoth task early on. Eli Iserbyt and Laurens Sweeck temporarily did, but it became clear it would be a race that could only be decided in the final laps.
It was a terrifically exciting finale with plenty riders taking the front and giving it a go for the win, but three riders stood out from the others. Eli Iserbyt attacked the final half lap hard but in the finishing straight he did not have enough of a lead, and with an early sprint he burned himself. Laurens Sweeck sprinted out of the wheel to take the win, with Toon Aerts finishing second. Iserbyt however largely defended his lead over Aerts into the final race of the cup.

In the women's race there was a slow start from Lucinda Brand and for a while Annemarie Worst and the Crelan - Corendon riders took the race lead. In such a fast course it wouldn't be easy to go against the Belgian team, but Brand managed to get to the race lead and take the win in an exciting sprint against Inge van der Heijden. Manon Bakker completed the podium.

- VDP is best in a short sprint, so Pog was purposely leaving a gap in hopes that VDP wouldn't have enough to sprint for 310 meters at the end of 300 KM. Kwiatkowski did the same thing to Sagan at that same point and won because of it.acem8223-03-2025

- hey look, an insinuating question from 2 years ago! I mean, sure, announcers mentioned tail wind, but whatever. That wasn't going to matter today, not with the 2 best classics riders of the past many generations (you have to go back to the 70s to see two people dominate like this, and even Merckx and de Vlaeminck never managed to win 2 each in the same year, the way Pogacar and Van der Poel have done in the past 2 years).RidesHills23-03-2025
- I like my statistics: Pogacar and van der Poel have won 13 of the last 18 Monuments and are tied at 7 each (MvdP won his first long enough ago that it doesn't show the more recent utter domination.) Oh, and the last 2 road world championships. Oh, and one of them also won the last Tour and Giro, while the other won the CX and Gravel world championships. The final seconds reminded me of E3 a few years back, when tiny little Pogacar had no chance against van Aert and van der Poel, but that was just the last few seconds of an incredible race.
