Wout van Aert has bounced back to winning ways after a brief run of second-placed finishes, courtesy of a fabulous victory at Superprestige Heusden-Zolder.
“I hadn't planned a lap in advance, but I wanted to build up a bit slowly. That was the right choice after the tough cross of Gavere and this is a difficult lap to take the lead," assessed van Aert post-race after having been locked alongside Eli Iserbyt for much of the race, until the bursting ahead on the final lap.

"So I thought it was good to ride the wheel and then wait for my moment to open up the race," he continues. "I had some trouble with positioning, I was often sitting a bit too far. You hurt yourself trying to close those holes, but on the long stretches it is a big advantage to be in the wheel.”
“I have gained content on the road and I know that the last fifteen minutes are in my favor. It is easier to make the differences than in the beginning. Feeling good after yesterday was difficult, but this gives confidence. I'm just happy with how things are going. A victory does not mean as much as it used to, but it is always nice to cross during the Christmas period,” van Aert concludes.
