Julius Johansen and Luke Plapp went up the road with around 45 kilometers to go in an attempt to surprise, and they forced the sprinter teams to burn some matched as they took a very fast average which saw the duo only caught with just under one kilometers to go.
The duo pushed the bar incredibly high with the leadouts having to severely force the pace to catch up.

Pascal Ackermann could not go over leadout man Juan Sebastián Molano, who held the speed and rode into the win in Madrid. Pedersen finished second and won the overall classification, with Mads Pedersen finishing third.
The peloton rode through the finish with many smiles present, as Remco Evenepoel confirmed his first Grand Tour win.
