The Tour de France is a race of legs, resilience, and many times luck. When a rider does not have it, it can render the work of months meaningless. Jonas Vingegaard has abandoned the Tour de France this Sunday after crashing during stage 15, bringing to an end Team Visma | Lease a Bike's mission to win the Grand Boucle.
This stage had already been heavily marked by the doping tests that had been carried out in the middle of the night to both Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar. The topic had already provided a lot of extra spark to a day where the GC riders were going to go head-to-head on the Plateau de Solaison.

A plan for Visma that didn't come to be

Team Visma | Lease a Bike had planed Bruno Armirail and Victor Campenaerts' in the day's breakaway, both riders were caught after the team chased from behind and pushed pace on the two climbs leading up to Solaison.
The pace set was quite high, but this turned out to be the team's downfall. With 20 kilometers to go the peloton arrived at a tricky section that featured a corner and road furniture. Visma were leading the peloton.

Possible collarbone fracture?

But good positioning does not always see the riders prevent crashes. Jonas Vingegaard went down and hit his shoulder on the sidewalk. The Dane immediately looked in distress and within bare minutes, his withdrawal became obvious.
Vingegaard was carried out of the race in an ambulance, with a suspected fracture in either the collarbone or the shoulder. Several riders of Visma and UAE were involved in the crash, including Isaac del Toro and Felix Grossschartner.
The consequences of the crash will be assessed in the coming hours, and the Dutch team should confirm the injuries of the former Tour de France winner.
