VIDEO: Christophe Laporte goes down hard at first intermediate sprint

With no breakaway out front, maximum points were on offer for the sprinters at the first intermediate sprint on stage 5 of the 2024 Giro d'Italia.

Kaden Groves took the win at the sprint ahead of Olav Kooij and Jonathan Milan. The main talking point however, was a crash for Christophe Laporte in the leadout. Going over a grate in the road, the European champion seemed to lose control as his foot slipped out of the pedals and subsequently slid hard across the tarmac, ripping open his jersey in the process.
