The queen stage of the Tour of Hellas opened up very early on, with a couple of brutal climb splitting up the GC contenders. Harold Martin López of XDS Astana Team has managed to secure his GC lead whilst Unibet Tietema Rockets' Adrien Maire took a surprising stage win.
Tietema's team opened up the action early on with Giovanni Carboni being the solo breakaway rider for a long time, but in the second main climb of the day the peloton fractured completely, with Luke Plapp getting dropped and a group of 11 riders forming the new head of the race.
On the final climb of the day a few more were dropped in the attacks, and five remained out front including the two Unibet riders and two Astana riders who collaborated to extend their GC advantage. In the final sprint López even led it out for Diego Ulissi, but the Italian was beaten to the line by the Frenchman Maire.
