Intermarché takes first win of the year! Dion Smith wins Volta NXT Classic

It took two months and a half but finally all World Tour teams have managed to take a victory this season. The last in line was Intermarché - Wanty, but today the Belgian team celebrates the success of Dion Smith at the Volta NXT Classic.
On the hilly terrain of the Dutch race a group of six riders managed to go into the head of the race and from these there was a final sprint. The peloton was not distant, but in the final uphill sprint the New Zealander was the strongest and beat Frank van den Broek to the line. Niklas Larsen completed the podium.

- What initially looked like a very clever move by Alex Aranburu to win the stage turned out to be a 'too good to be true' moment. To be fair to him though, the race organizers did a pretty terrible job of blocking off that side of the roundabout.

- Why just Pogacar, when he highlights the superb results of others annd compares it to 5 years ago (when carb-based feeding was treated differently, for whatever that is worth). Imagine asking Vingegaard, who recovered incredibly quickly from his awful injury. His climbing times were better than ever before. Does that mean he’s doing something nefarious? I doubt it. But I am pretty sure he had some TUEs that aided his recovery. I am okay with that, like I’m okay with using the cars to come back after a mechanical. If transparency is asked for, it should be asked for more broadly. That gives away a competitive advantage so it’s never going to happen.RidesHills09-04-2025
