Movistar Team's Annemiek van Vleuten has taken victory on stage 2 of the Giro d'Italia Donne, moving into the overall lead of the race.
After the torrential rain brought a premature end to the opening time-trial, the 2023 Giro d'Italia Donne began in earnest.
Attacking on the final climb of the day, Annemiek van Vleuten rode clear and despite a brave effort by the chasers, there was simply no catching the legendary Dutchwoman in the final downhill to the line.

- Visma's tactics in this tour have been bizarre, JV's wife has lost her husband this tour, he can really motor but for some reason puts out a press interview slighting him. Visma have rode as strongly as they can but weirdly too... They've 1 stage win and that's all.

- Pogi is tired and over Visma's wierd tactics. they talk about fighting till the death and then ride at ridiculous speeds at illogical times and then Jonas just sits in Pogi's wheel all day. Also the man has ALREADY Won 2 RvV, LbL Fleche Wallone and Strade Bianche, Podiumed at MsR, Amstel and P-R, Won GC, Points 3 stages and KOM at Dauphine, GC Points and 2 stages at UAE Tour and of course, 4 stages and very likely GC and KOM at the TdF... .... In the last 6 months!! This is a whole career for an exceptionally talented rider, and this is just a random Spring and summer for Tadej. The man is probably BONE tired and even his infections enthusiasm has its limits when Jonas rides like a coward by wheelsucking then sprinting in the last 100m. And with full respect to Politt, Wellens, Soler and Narvarez, it absolutely does not help when The Boss is missing a prime, in-form Almeida, Ayuso or Del Toro to give him a hand when the music REALLY starts on these brutal mountains... And they are saying he is going to the Vuelta.... Most people could never... - RE will be the same rider at RedBull, cept he'll be there. He's got psychological issues with Jonas V & Tadej P. Like WvA did with M vd Poel, whenever they raced together, usually against', it'd go MvdP's way. Why doesn't the UCI enforce the sock height rule with her? It's ridiculous what she gets away with. Why not just wear a knee high compression sock like triathletes wear these days. Bad look !
