UCI introduces new rules and tougher penalties to enhance race safety

The year 2024 will bring with it a number of regulatory developments, especially in the international cycling arena. The UCI has updated the penalties for irregularities at international level events, marking a significant change in the logistics of teams and their personnel during competitions.

One important aspect concerns the masseurs and accompanying persons in charge of supplies on the road. From 2024 onwards, the supply can only be carried out in specific areas designated by the organizer and exclusively by team personnel wearing official clothing. This measure aims to improve safety and avoid incidents, which are common in these situations.

The UCI, aware of the risks associated with supply on the move, has imposed an additional restriction. Operators on foot must keep a maximum distance of one meter from the edge of the road, on the side facing the direction of traffic. Those who do not comply with this rule, especially the one-meter distance, will affect the team's sport directors, who will be penalized with financial fines.

The amount of the fines will vary according to the category of the competition, from 200 Swiss francs for elite events to 50 Swiss francs for other lower level competitions. These changes are intended to strengthen safety and organization at international cycling events.
