All eyes have been on
Tom Pidcock for a couple months now and for good reason. With one of the wealthiest contracts in pro cycling, three years remaining at
INEOS Grenadiers and off the back of a big controversy, fans all-round are eager to know what will be of the Briton's future. According to one well informed journalist, a transfer to
Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team is gaining momentum.
This comes as a relatively big surprise as about a month ago, sources from within the cycling world had said that the move had fell apart. Pidcock has struggled through most of this season, but did win outside of the road (an Olympic Mountain Bike title, for the matter of fact).
However it was his non-selection for Il Lombardia when he was finally back to good form, with no explanation given, looked like the final hit. Transfer rumours immediately surged right after. But they didn't apparently lead anywhere and a few weeks back
Pidcock was present at an INEOS Grenadiers meeting camp in the UK.
It seemed like it was a done deal. With the team changing it's ambitions and staff dramatically, and no transfer materializing, it seemed like the two were set in stone for 2025. But last week Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Ciro Scognamiglio once again wrote that the possible move to the Swiss ProTeam was back on the table, with a decent possibility of coming together.
But this morning the other big face of the cycling transfer community, Daniel Benson, reinforced these rumours. In a message shared on X, Benson was actually quite clear that the topic is being discussed and progressing:
"A few days ago @cirogazzetta wrote that the Pidcock move to Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team could be back on. That's gaining more momentum this morning, for sure," he reported. This could potentially indicate that there is currently a strong and active set of negotiations taking place that could lead to the move.
Some have argued that this move could be on the table due to Maxim van Gils' departure from Lotto Dstny. The Belgian rider would be signed likely by either Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe or Astana Qazaqstan Team, but if INEOS is able to release Pidcock and have his salary available for other signings then Van Gils would fully be on the table. This could also justify the delay in an announcement on van Gils, at a moment where several World Tour teams are already packing towards their first training camp.
