Tom Pidcock once again failed to convert his lead into a victory. He was leading the final sprint, but he could not hold it for much longer and lost it to
Jordi Meeus.
"We did a good lead-out. It was a hectic finish, and no one really taking it up with small teams,” said Pidcock. He continues, "I’m finding my feet a little bit. It was the first few days of not really knowing my place. I think it was a successful day.”
Although he did not win, his plan was accomplished, he wanted to control GC favorites from advancing up the rank, which eventually went according to his plan. “We controlled the break, made sure there was nothing dangerous happening there, then do a good lead-out and try to take some bonus seconds. That’s what we did. I don’t think I’m quick enough to win a bunch sprint but getting some bonus seconds is exactly what we wanted to do,” said Pidcock.
With three more stages left to complete, he plans to use bonuses to his advantage to climb up the GC. "I think victory is possible. It’s three seconds, and there are a lot of time bonuses on the road. That’s what the goal is. Three more days of racing to try and win” concluded Pidcock.
