With almost every race that goes by,
Tadej Pogacar seems to create some form of cycling history. At the 2025
Tour de France, it has taken the Slovenian superstar just four stages to do so, as he reaches a landmark in his own career with a 100th professional victory.
In a frantic and thrilling finale to the day, Pogacar was embroiled in a real war of attrition against the likes of
Mathieu van der Poel and
Jonas Vingegaard. Whilst it Van der Poel who had emerged victorious on stage 2 however, this time around Pogacar gained revenge, coming out of the Yellow Jersey's slipstream in the last few metres and kicking clear to the finish line to take the win.
"I hope everybody was at the limit," Pogacar told the media in his immediate post-stage interview afterwards. "I tried an attack on the last climb, and then Jonas followed me, and everything came together.
João Almeida did such an amazing job to lead me out to the very end as people were attacking. I am super happy with the team today. Such a nice victory."
And as mentioned, with this win Pogacar reaches a landmark century of pro victories. "To win at the Tour is incredible, in this jersey even more, and 100 is amazing," he assesses proudly. "With so many good riders in the final, such a final, you’re a bit on the edge with what’s going to happen. You never know. You get this adrenaline, and it’s pure racing, and I enjoy it."
With the time bonuses accumulated thanks to the stage win, Pogacar also ties for time with Van der Poel at the top of the GC, although the Dutchman keeps the race lead on countback. Given that it is a time trial coming up tomorrow however, Pogacar is now favourite to the Maillot Jaune on stage 5. "We will see tomorrow, tomorrow is the real test, but to win a stage already, for me, I just want to keep enjoying this race. Of course, yellow, but we will see," he concludes.
