As Remco Evenepoel prepares to join Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe in 2026, the Belgian’s incoming presence is already stirring reactions within the team — including high praise from Danish rider Frederik Wandahl, who describes his future teammate as an “exceptionally talented rider” and a cyclist who has "dominated the sport.”
Speaking in an interview with Feltet.dk, Wandahl didn’t hold back in his admiration for Evenepoel’s palmarès and riding style, noting that despite his young age, the 2022 World Champion has already cemented himself as a reference point in modern racing.
“The way he’s dominated the sport, there’s no doubt he’s an exceptionally talented rider,” Wandahl said. “I’m looking forward to working with him. I think he has a lot to pass on — even though he’s still young.”
Evenepoel, still just 25, joins Red Bull - BORA with a glittering résumé: overall victory at the Vuelta a Espana, rainbow jerseys in both the time trial and road race, and marquee wins in Liège–Bastogne–Liège and the Clásica San Sebastián among others. Last summer, he added Olympic gold in the road race to his growing list of achievements — a result that only reinforces his ability to deliver on cycling’s biggest stages.

Shared ambitions in the classics

For Wandahl, Evenepoel’s arrival offers more than just star power — it potentially opens the door to collaboration in the one-day races, where both riders see themselves playing to their strengths. “I hope I get the chance to focus more on the one-day races,” said Wandahl. “Remco probably has many of the same qualities that I can contribute with. So naturally, I’m hoping to be involved with him and see what we can achieve together in the biggest one-day events.”
Evenepoel’s one-day pedigree is well documented: wins in Liège, in San Sebastián, plus World and Olympic titles speak for themselves. But Wandahl, 24, is no stranger to the puncheur’s terrain either. With promising rides in the Ardennes and solid showings in races like Eschborn–Frankfurt and the Canadian WorldTour classics, he sees his own development aligning with Evenepoel’s focus areas. “The way Remco races actually fits really well with how I like to race. I think it could be a good match,” he added.

"It might cost me chances — but it’s worth it"

Still, Wandahl is under no illusions about the competitive dynamic that comes with having a megastar in the team. Evenepoel’s presence, he admits, could limit his own opportunities to go for results — especially in the one-day races where leadership roles are often tightly contested.
“When you’ve got a rider that good, it probably means I won’t get as many chances to go for big results myself in the major one-day races,” he said. “But at the same time, we’ll have a rider who can actually win them — and that’s incredibly motivating. It makes you want to be there, helping as much as you can.”

Eyes still on 2025 — for now

While the spotlight is already turning toward 2026, Wandahl remains focused on the present. After an extended injury layoff, the Dane is set to make his comeback this Wednesday and is aiming to make the most of the remainder of the 2025 season before linking up with Evenepoel the following year. “I’m definitely looking to be part of that setup,” he said. “But first, I need to get back to racing and finish the season strong.”
