Jack Haig is looking for a different challenge, and after two Tour de France attempts that ended in disaster, the Australian climber will be riding the Giro d'Italia in 2023 in search of success.
“The Tour de France was never really a success for me. Next season I will therefore not ride that Grand Tour," Haig told the media at the Bahrain - Victorious presentation this Friday. "I have ridden many of the same races in the last two years. I have now indicated to the team that I want other challenges, I had to be able to get motivation from somewhere else. One of my big main goals in 2023 will therefore be the Giro.”

The Australian has abandoned three of his last four Grand Tours due to crashes. The one he hasn't - the 2021 Vuelta a Espana - has seen Haig finish in third place, only behind Primoz Roglic and Enric Mas. He'sl ooking to steer away from the Tour and focus on the Italian Grand Tour, which will also suit his stage-racing skills smore.
“The Giro demands a lot from a rider, more than other Grand Tours. The stages are often very long and often the weather is not to write home about," he concluded. Haig had done recon of several stages some weeks ago alongside Gino Mader and Edoardo Zambanini, the trio are virtually confirmed as the main climbing block for the race, alongside Damiano Caruso who has also confirmed his intent to eye the pink jersey this coming year.
