The striking helmet used by Team Visma | Lease a Bike in time-trial at Tirreno-Adriatico and Paris-Nice earlier this year have been given provisional approval by the UCI.

The futuristic design sent the cycling world into a frenzy when they were first shown off to the world in the individual time-trial at Tirreno-Adriatico, where the likes of Jonas Vingegaard, Cian Uijtdebroeks and Dylan van Baarle wore the look. So much was actually being made of the helmet that the UCI actually announced they would investigate further into the design.

Sporza are now reporting though, that the UCI has granted Team Visma | Lease a Bike provisional acceptance for the design. This means that the team will be allowed to continue wearing the helmet for the rest of the year as the sport's rule-makers continue their investigations.

The UCI has approved the prototype until a date of January 17, 2025. “After that period, the prototype must be for sale to everyone according to the applicable conditions,” the UCI emphasizes in conversation with Sporza.

I don’t remember anyone making such a big fuss about some past outrageous designs. When it helped him, Cancellara didn’t mind wearing something that looked like he’d bought it for the Venice carnaval and no-one gave him any stick for it. Seems like some men, instead of seeing the interest or even just fun in it, get offended or ashamed by something so penile looking, maybe it stirs up feelings due to comparing with their own manlihood?
