Intermarché - Wanty has performed very well at the 2024 Tour de France, punching way above it's weight with Biniam Girmay winning three sprint stages and the green jersey in Nice. Now, the Belgian team aims to surprise once again with a team focused on the flat and hilly days.
"To build on our success from the 2024 Tour de France, we started working back in August to assemble a team squarely focused on stage victories for the 2025 edition. Biniam Girmay is naturally our spearhead for sprint finishes and stages with tricky finals," team DS Aike Visbeek said in a press release.
Girmay has not been having the same stellar season this year so far but will have plenty opportunities to succeed and also has the opportunity to put on the yellow jersey on stage 1 which should finish with a bunch sprint in Lille.
The team will have Laurenz Rex, Louis Barré and Georg Zimmermann as options for the hilly days - albeit outsider always - and will have Hugo Page and Vito Braet as the most important men in Girmay's leadout train. Roel van Sintmaartensdijk and Jonas Rutsch will be splitting leadout duties with breakaways mostly on the flat days as well.
