Tao Geoghegan Hart hails "hugely significant news" as British Cycling attempt to revive Tour of Britain

Tao Geoghegan Hart has been one of the brightest, British stars within the peloton over the past few years. The 28-year-old has now hailed the news that British Cycling will attempt to revive the Tour of Britain after considerable money troubles for the race.

"This is hugely significant news for the sport of cycling in Great Britain," writes the 2020 Giro d'Italia winner in an official post to his X (Twitter) account. "Yes the grassroots of cycling undoubtedly needs more support. However, these events will inspire the next generation of young racers, whose families will in turn become the volunteers of tomorrow."

SweetSpot the former backers of the Tour of Britain entered liquidation last month, with the winner of the 2023 edition, Wout van Aert among the riders still waiting to receive the prize money they earned through their performances in the race. With the announcement of British Cycling's involvement last week however, there is now hope for the future.

"I’d never have discovered cycling without the Tour of Britain racing along the Mall! I still have a pair of GB gloves I cheekily asked Roger Hammond for almost 20 years ago. Cycling is free to view, it’s exciting and it promotes green transportation, we need more of it on our roads!" Geoghegan Hart continues. "Equally important is the focus on the Women’s Tour; once upon a time the most progressive & recognised women’s race internationally. It was sorely missed in 2023. I really hope British Cycling will prioritise live TV/streams in 2024 as part of this new chapter."
