With three Tour de France titles and now a Giro d'Italia victory on his palmares, the question of when
Tadej Pogacar will attempt to complete his Grand Tour set at the
Vuelta a Espana is a keenly discussed one. Now, courtesy of the Slovenian's agent
Alex Carera, we may have our answer.
"His dream is to win all the races on the calendar. I am sure he will return to La Vuelta in 2025 or 2026," the superagent says in conversation with
Relevo about the future plans of the all-conquering
UAE Team Emirates leader. "But it will be something he will decide with his team and with his closest environment. At the moment, I would say that the chances of seeing him here next year are around 50%."
Only once before has Pogacar raced the Vuelta a Espana, finishing 3rd overall and winning three stages on his Grand Tour debut back in 2019. With both the Maglia Rosa and the Maillot Jaune now captured though, the time seems to be right to return to Spain and target the Red Jersey to complete the set.
"Every year he scores a new goal, a different challenge. Two seasons ago it was the Tour of Flanders, this year it was the Giro," Carera explains further. "I know he wants to return to two races. One is the Tour Down Under and the Vuelta."
Whether that would mean a Tour de France / Vuelta a Espana double or skipping the Tour for a season and targeting solely the Spanish Grand Tour remains to be seen. Nevertheless it's been made clear by Pogacar's agent that the UAE Team Emirates leader will be returning to the Vuelta a Espana in the not too distant future. An exciting prospect for sure and a story to keep an eye on as the next twelve months progress.
