Lotto Dstny's Alec Segaert has taken a big win on stage 2 of the 2024 Renewi Tour, winning the individual time trial in Tessenderlo, moving into the overall race lead as a result.
After a day for the sprinters yesterday, stage 2 saw the time trial specialists get their chance to shine. Among the quicker early times were the likes of Ryan Mullen and Josef Cerny. The first rider to set a potentially stage winning time however, came in the form of Stefan Bissegger with his effort of 17:09.
The Swiss had already spent some considerable time in the hotseat, when former world champion Tobias Foss gave him a big scare, but ultimately crossed the line .8 of a second slower. Bissegger's time wasn't good enough for the stage win however, as Lotto Dstny's Alec Segaert went more than 10 seconds quicker with his effort, a blistering time to say the least.
Mathieu van der Poel clocked the provisional 9th fastest time, Magnus Sheffield missed out on Segaert's time by just 7 seconds, whilst Tim Wellens clocked a time 16 seconds slower than his young compatriot.
