Stefan Küng has been one of the main figures in the peloton in 2023, serving crucial support for David Gaudu at the stage-races, whilst excelling in the cobbled classics and time-trials throughout the entire year. He is however looking to turn that consistency into a win in 2023.
Küng rode to third place at Paris-Roubaix and the E3 Saxo Bank Classic, fifth at the Tours des Flandres, sixth at Dwars door Vlaanderen and eighth at Amstel Gold Race, hitting an almost spotless spring campaign. He followed that up with a fifth place at the Tour de Suisse where he showed off his climbing skills, and supported Gaudu to fourth place at the Tour.
However he didn't manage to capture a big win. He won the Chrono des Nations and Tour Poitou - Charentes late in the year, but finished second at both European and World Championships time-trial events. The latter, he beat all of his competition, but was beaten by a shocking Tobias Foss who soared into the rainbow jersey.
"Time trials will once again be boxes ticked in my 2023 program. World Championships, for a few seconds," he said in a press release. "But we work very hard, both physically and materially. The whole team is involved and puts all the means in place, in all areas, to get, I hope, the Grail: this rainbow jersey that I want to win in August 2023."
