Arnaud Démare's 2023 goal will be to achieve "the milestone of 100 victories"

Arnaud Démare has kept his winning form throughout 2022, and next year he will be aiming to finally cross the 100-victory mark whilst having another ambitious year with Groupama-FDJ who have revealed a new equipment and goals this morning.

"The milestone of 100 victories would be a real consecration, because it represents well the longevity of a rider over the years," Démare told the media. "In the history of French cycling, only Bernard Hinault, Laurent Jalabert and Jacques Anquetil have reached this figure, but unlike these three champions, I could achieve it with one and the same jersey since my first success: that of the Groupama-FDJ Cycling Team."

A very specific goal, however one that is very adequate for the Frenchman. A long-time sprinter and classics expert Démare has taken high-quality wins in races such as Milano-Sanremo and the BEMER Cyclassics, two stage wins at the Tour de France and eight wins at the Giro d'Italia, aswell as being a two-time points classification winner there. Throughout his career he's taken 91 pro wins, and he's looking to take a further nine.

"I remember ten years back when I was neo-pro... I had five victories to my credit, it was already incredible for me. This symbolic bar is achievable this year and I am very motivated to do everything to achieve this goal. I hope, of course, to achieve this while raising my arms on very big races," he concluded.

The Frenchman is seeing both Jacopo Guarnieri and Ramon Sinkeldam depart from the French team, as the team focuses on a large batch of under-23 riders coming from it's development ranks. It will be a different year without his traditional leadout men, and he's talked of a possible Tour de France presence even if he wouldn't have full support - as David Gaudu is set to target the overall classification.

However the goal of 100 wins should be achievable in 2023 taking into consideration he's won seven races this year including three stage wins at the Giro d'Italia, a win at the Tour de Pologne and on his final race day of the year a win at Paris-Tours, proving he still has the legs to perform in the classics.
