Having recently renewed with Team BikeExchange - Jayco, the Australian team has definitely gotten it's spark back as Simon Yates flew to two stage wins and an overall classification win this week racing in Spain.
“Of course I’m really happy with the win. We put it on the line today. We didn’t really know which way it was going to go: whether it’d be a sprint for Dion or whether I’d be able to do something on the final climb," Yates said in a post-race interview after his stage and GC win at the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon. After winning the Prueba Villafranca this week, he has brought in very important points for the Australian team which have taken it off the last spot in the UCI rankings in terms of maintenance.

"...We really attacked the final climb as hard as possible, and then I just tried to do my best from there onwards. I’m really happy to have pulled it off, and now we look forward to San Sebastian on the weekend," he detailed.
With his, Dylan Groewegen and Michael Matthews' renewal for the coming years, alongside very important wins from all three, it has brought back a much needed spark as the last few months saw the team sink in the classifications - which have seen them tied with Lotto Soudal, with a gap created once again in the meantime. Yates will be looking to keep his good run of form, as he's showing very strong legs once again.

The 29-year old will race the Clasica San Sebastian tomorrow where he will be a strong contender for the win. However, his main sights will be on the Vuelta a Espana where the hot weather and Spanish-style racing should suit him to the core, where he will be a contender to repeat his win of 2018.
