The 2026 season might still seem some way off, but increasingly, transfer speculation is growing in regards to one man: Primoz Roglic. According to Dutch ex-pro turned expert analyst Thijs Zonneveld, the five-time Grand Tour winner is at the centre of growing rumour — and his next move could unlock a flurry of activity across the World Tour peloton.
Speaking on the In de Waaier podcast, Zonneveld described the Slovenian as the "dominant force" currently holding up the transfer market, with multiple teams reportedly delaying decisions as they await clarity on Roglic's future.
"From what I’m hearing around the peloton, there’s one major transfer looming, and that’s Primoz Roglic," said Zonneveld. "A lot of teams are holding spots open, waiting to see if he makes a move. If he does, money and space will suddenly become available elsewhere."
Roglic’s position at Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe has come under increasing scrutiny following the high-profile signing of Remco Evenepoel. While the team has remained tight-lipped, it's no secret that fitting two Grand Tour leaders into one roster — with potentially overlapping ambitions — presents a challenge, even more so when the likes of Florian Lipowitz, Giulio Pellizzari and Jai Hindley are thrown into the mix.

The domino effect

Should Roglic decide to part ways with the German outfit, the repercussions would be significant. Zonneveld believes the 35-year-old wouldn’t be moving alone. "If Roglic leaves, he likely takes Jan Tratnik with him. And that would mean BORA would have to go shopping again. It’s the kind of domino effect that defines transfer windows."
The idea of a Roglic-led reshuffle could potentially be putting the brakes on other moves as well. Lidl-Trek, previously linked with strengthening their GC ambitions, may now be reconsidering their strategy amid rumours that Juan Ayuso could also be on the move — a factor that might "close the door" on Roglic, Zonneveld speculates.
"He’ll want a team that can properly support him. Some are already full, others are holding places. But no one wants to commit until they know where Roglic is going."

What next for Roglic?

Roglic remains one of the peloton’s most valuable assets. Despite his age, he continues to deliver at the highest level, with a Volta a Catalunya victory proof of that despite a difficult 2025. Any team signing him would not just be gaining a leader, but also attracting potential co-signings and a wealth of tactical experience.
Yet, with limited top-tier teams capable — or willing — to offer Roglic both leadership and a competitive support structure, his options may be narrower than in previous years. Still, few riders hold such sway over a market, and fewer still could cause such widespread hesitation simply by staying quiet.
As Zonneveld puts it, ā€œThere’s a whole new dynamic in the transfer market — and right now, Roglic is the key to unlocking it.ā€
