Sergio Higuita wrapped up the Itzulia Basque Country with a sixth-place finish in the overall standings. He came in fifth in the final stage, finishing 49 seconds behind the winner, Jonas Vingegaard.
"We can be really pleased with our performance at this year's race,” he said on his team’s website. He continues, “We rode offensively, and I tried very hard to take a podium place in the GC. In the end, I was only eight seconds away from the podium, so it was relatively close.”
The German team had a fruitful tour, with Ide Schelling taking the second stage victory and Sergio Higuita emerging as the top rider in the fifth stage. “It was also great that we picked up two stage wins, and I'd like to thank my teammates for their tremendous support the whole week. Our performance here has given me a lot of confidence for the next races.”
Jens Zemke, the Sports Director of the team, shared his positive thoughts on the team's performance. “Sergio rode a particularly strong race and on the last climb it looked like he could make it onto the GC podium, but in the end, several dropped riders who were ahead of him in GC came back. Overall, we can be very satisfied with our week here, especially with our second place at GP Indurain and then the stage wins taken by Ide and Sergio,” concluded Zemke.
