The IOC has cut off funding for the Russian Olympic Committee after it attempted to claim Ukrainian athletes from four regions of Ukraine for Russia. The IOC will decide if Russia can participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The Russian Olympic Committee has provisionally been suspended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) due to reasons relating to the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, although Russian riders may still hold hopes of competing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The likes of BORA - hansgrohe's Aleksandr Vlasov and Astana Qazaqstan Team's Gleb Syritsa's chances of competing for gold next summer looks to be still alive. “The suspension of the National Olympic Committee will not in any way affect the participation of independent athletes,” IOC spokesman Mark Adams said at a news conference after a board meeting.
Due to the IOC's decision, the Russian Olympic Committee can no longer operate as a National Olympic Committee, will no longer receive any funding from the international sports organisation and all the nation's athletes, cyclists included, will have to compete under a neutral flag.
