Ally Wollaston extended her perfect start to the 2026 Women’s
Tour Down Under, sprinting to victory in Paracombe to claim her second stage win in two days and strengthen her hold on the overall lead.
The 130.7 km stage from Magill was raced at a ferocious tempo in extreme heat, with attacks flying from the opening climb. Team Visma | Lease a Bike, UAE Team ADQ and Fenix-Premier Tech all tried to force an early selection, splitting the bunch and leaving several riders chasing for much of the first hour.
A solo move by Wilma Aintila finally gained real freedom just under 100 km from the finish. The Canyon-SRAM Zondacrypto rider built a lead of almost two minutes as the peloton hesitated. Once again, FDJ United-Suez took responsibility for the chase, with Amber Kraak setting a relentless tempo to protect Wollaston’s ochre jersey.
Aintila was caught shortly after the second intermediate sprint, and from there the race became a constant cycle of attacks around the Paracombe circuit. UAE Team ADQ and Visma Lease a Bike were the most aggressive, while FDJ United-Suez marked every dangerous move and refused to let a decisive group escape.
Late attacks involving riders like Chloe Dygert and Josie Talbot briefly opened gaps, but none survived the final climb. On the last ascent, EF Education-Oatly lined things out for defending champion Noemi Ruegg, who launched first in the sprint.
Wollaston, coming from slightly deeper, produced another powerful acceleration in the final metres to come past Ruegg and seal her second win of the race. Josie Nelson completed the podium in third.
Wollaston keeps the leader’s jersey and the points lead going into the final stage. Paula Blasi now leads the mountains classification, while Justyne Czapla remains best young rider. The race concludes with a demanding finale featuring two ascents of the Corkscrew climb, which will decide the overall title.
