The queen stage of the Tour of Holland delivered on the action, with a Dutch continental rider forming part of the day's breakaway, getting caught by the main favourites on the day but then going on to take the stage win on the mythical VAM-berg whilst Christophe Laporte has taken the race lead after Ethan Hayter was forced to withdraw from the race.
The queen stage saw a breakaway of seven get formed including Hartthijs de Vries, Rick Ottema, Ward Vanhoof, Timo de Jong, Rayan Boulhaoite, Roan Konings and Simon Goossens. This group would go on to have a big influence in the outcome of the day, but the truth is that beforehand the race leader Ethan Hayter would abandon the race with illness, making Jakob Söderqvist the provisional leader of the race in the VAM-berg circuit.
The attacks started in the final 45 kilometers of racing and as the breakaway began to split, a few riders began moving out of the peloton, but the pace was very high and they couldn't go far. With 29 kilometers to go Christophe Laporte and was followed by Lukas Kubis, with the two collaborating to reach the front group which included De Jong, Ottema, Vanhoof, Goossens, Boulahoite and De Vries whilst the peloton was reduced only to a few riders, with Söderqvist in the chasing group and still aiming to win the overall classification.
Entering the final lap there were attacks in front, but De Vries put himself in the wind for Kubis to keep order in the group into the final climb which consisted of three small uphill ramps. Into the cobbles (the second one) Kubis attacked right away followed by De Jong whilst Laporte lost a gap but closed it into the final 300-meter uphill sprint. Laporte would go on to overtake Kubis and take the race lead, but the stage win would surprisingly go on to be won by Timo de Jong who took his first pro win in an incredibly special way.
