Lotte Kopecky sprinted to an emphatic victory at Danlith Nokere Koerse WE 2026, timing her effort perfectly on the uphill run to the line after a chaotic and tactical finale.
The race had looked set for a reduced bunch sprint after a series of late attacks failed to produce a decisive split. Kopecky herself had been central to that phase, accelerating on the cobbles of the Lange Ast to force a select group clear alongside
Charlotte Kool, Fleur Moors and Shari Bossuyt.
However, hesitation within that move proved decisive. With Kool, the fastest finisher present, reluctant to fully commit, the advantage quickly evaporated as a larger group reformed behind, bringing the race back together ahead of the final kilometres.
That regrouping set up a tense run-in where positioning became everything, with multiple teams battling to control the front of the race on narrow roads and cobbled sectors. With no single team able to impose full control for long, the finale developed into a test of timing and power rather than pure sprint organisation.
Sprint teams regain control after late disruption
A late solo move from Ilse Pluimers briefly threatened to disrupt the expected outcome, opening a small gap inside the final kilometres. But with the finish approaching, Fenix-Premier Tech committed fully to the chase in support of Kool, reeling in the move and setting up a sprint finish.
Crashes in the bunch and a puncture for Shari Bossuyt added further tension in the closing kilometres, but ultimately did little to prevent the race returning to a sprint scenario.
Into the final kilometre, multiple teams attempted to organise their lead-outs, with Fenix-Premier Tech, SD Worx and UAE all represented at the front as the road began to rise towards the finish.
Kopecky, briefly isolated compared to the numbers around her, held her position before launching her sprint at around 100 metres to go. The acceleration proved decisive, with the Belgian quickly opening a gap that none of her rivals could match.
Charlotte Kool finished second, while Lara Gillespie completed the podium after a tightly contested sprint behind.
