UAE Team Emirates - XRG's magical Mexican super talent, Isaac del Toro, has continued his incredible autumn form, adding a 16th victory of the campaign in typically dominant style on Wednesday afternoon at the 2025 Giro del Veneto.
Eight riders were part of the day's initial breakaway. Most notable of the attackers was Italian cycling legend Elia Viviani (Lotto) racing the final race of his illustrious career. Alongside the nine-time Grand Tour stage winner were also Davide Bais (Team Polti VisitMalta), plus Uno-X Mobility duo Storm Ingebrigtsen and Sakarias Koller Løland among others.
With 71km to go, on the first ascent of the Torricella Massimiliana of the day, Viviani was immediately distanced from the breakaway and soon later swallowed up by the peloton. As the rest of the breakaway carried on without Viviani's presence, they held an advantage of just over a minute over the peloton as they entered the final 45km of the day. With 34km to go, all attackers had been caught.
Then began a reignited fight at the front of the peloton. As UAE upped the pace heading into the final 2 laps, Tim Wellens was stringing things out from the front of the bunch, with Pavel Sivakov also trying to set things up on the climbs, seemingly for an imminent attack of Isaac del Toro.
As the final lap began, only around 30 or so riders remained in the front part of the peloton. With one climb of the Torricella Massimiliana to go, the question was whether or not a Del Toro attack on the climb to get enough separation to ensure victory, or would we see a sprint from a small group at the line?
With 11km to go, the expected Del Toro attack came and whilst Romain Gregoire was able to follow initially, when the Mexican super talent kicked again, it wasn't long before he was all alone at the front of the race.
By the time Del Toro reached the top of the climb, he'd built up a lead of around 20 seconds. With 8km to go, victory wasn't exactly guaranteed, but as the chase immediately went into fight for 2nd mode, the chances of another win for the UAE star looked ever more likely.
After Del Toro had soared towards victory, around 30 seconds later the chase came home with Pavel Sivakov himself lead the group over the line for a UAE one-two in 2nd place with Jonas Abrahamsen completing the podium in 3rd place.
