The
Clasica de Almeria provides an opportunity for the sprinters to perform and we have had quite the show this Sunday afternoon.
NSN Cycling Team performed a perfect leadout and
Biniam Girmay took the victory, the second of his season.
The 189-kilometer long race was shaped for the sprinters, with a few small climbs in the start of the race, but a flat finale into Roquetas del Mar not providing obstacles where we could see strong attacks creating differences. Márton Dina, Ander Okamika, Brem Deman, Javier Ibañez and Pablo Carrascosa ormed the early breakaway.
The group resisted until 22 kilometers to go, as the peloton began increasing its pace. The wind played a role, but the urban finale also led to a lot of tension which led to the leadouts having fight for positioning early on. There were countless crashes in the lead in to the finish.
The final kilometers proved to be very chaotic with leadouts hitting the front one at a time. In the final kilometer, with perfect timing, NSN hit the front with four riders and took Biniam Girmay to the final sprint with perfection. He launched it from the front and had the legs to finish the job, beating defending champion
Milan Fretin to the line,.
