Stage 3 of the AlUla Tour was the first and only stage finishing with a climb, which can ultimately be key for the overall classification. Several teams took up the responsibility, however it was Tudor Pro Cycling who managed to take the glory on the day as
Yannis Voisard took the stage win and is the new leader of the race.
The stage was mostly flat but this time around the wind wasn't playing a role in the day. Nader Hazazi, Zhe Yie Kee and Muhammad Nur Aiman Bin Rosli formed the day's breakaway, The former two, a Malaysian duo, were left alone in front early on ahead of the final climb, but the catch was comfortably made with 36 kilometers to the peloton.
Without technical roads or towns to ride through, there weren't really reasons for tension in the peloton, however in the last descent of the day there was a high-speed fall involving a UAE Team Emirates - XRG rider. The peloton then headed towards the final climb in a straight line, where Team Jayco AlUla took up the responsibility first. Paul Double launched an attack, followed by a few riders; and then with 2.2 kilometers to go Jan Christen launched an attack from behind.
Victory looked likely but the exposed and wide desert road up the hill caused a few riders to misjudge their effort. Afonso Eulálio managed to bridge across to Christen with his teammate Kevin Vermaerke in the wheel; however none of them would take glory. After stopping, Sergio Higuita then launched his sprint first but was left for third place as
Yannis Voisard was the strongest on the uphill finish - whilst Eulálio was second.
