Stage 5 of the
4 Jours de Dunkerque was a day for the sprinters, finishing in the city that gives the race its name. The overall classification had virtually been decided previously and
Laurence Pithie could celebrate his GC triumph; whilst
Jordi Meeus won the sprint for the final stage.
It was a perfect day for
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe, who finished the day with the GC and stage winners. Théo Delacroix, Louis Chaleil and Similien Hamon formed the day's breakaway however this was one that was comfortably controlled by the peloton.
The catch was made with 5 kilometers to go and a few leadouts stood out afterwards. However Danny van Poppel, who was initially scheduled to race the Giro d'Italia, was an addition to this race and put on a perfect leadout for Jordi Meeus in the final meters of the stage. The Dutchman almost won the stage himself, but it was Meeus who took the win.
