Remco Evenepoel had a good start to the season but his spring was cut short at Itzulia Basque Country. The Soudal - Quick-Step rider was in great form but crashed out of the race with several injuries. Three weeks later, he returns to the bike and the road.
Evenepoel suffered a fractured collarbone and shoulder blade in the mass crash that happened during the Basque race. He was one of the many affected, and his injuries sidelined him also from the Ardennes classics - and specially Liège-Bastogne-Liège where he hoped to defend his title against Tadej Pogacar.
Ultimately, a setback in his season, but not a year-changing crash. The Belgian is still on track to the Tour de France with all the initially scheduled preparation, Patrick Lefevere said, and today Evenepoel took a very important step in that direction.
A 100-kilometer rider near his home in Belgium; Evenepoel has effectively restarted training ahead of an important month of May where he will do an altitude camp ahead of the Tour de France.
