Primoz Roglic sitting in pole position for Dauphiné win after strong time-trial: "I think I did a good job on this course"

Primoz Roglic has taken to the start of the individual time-trial of the Critérium du Dauphiné as a contender to finish on the top places and he fulfilled the expectations. The Slovenian is sitting in a strong position for the overall classification after distancing his rivals.

“It was a tough time trial. I would have preferred a little more climbing meters along the way, but I think I did a good job on this course. I pushed myself to the limit. Mentally it's fine," he told the media. He finished the day in fifth place 42 seconds down on Filippo Ganna, however besides Mattia Cattaneo, in front of every other GC contender - assuming Wout van Aert stands by his initial ambitions of supporting the duo of Roglic and Vingegaard.

With Jonas Vingegaard the closest victory contender to him after the time-trial, thirty seconds behind, Roglic is now sitting in a very strong position as he was expected to be after the time-trial. Jumbo-Visma are in control of the race so far and it's the Dutch team's to loose.

"I'm looking forward to the weekend when there are some mountains on the program. First of all, it is important to survive the next two rides. We have a strong team. This will allow us to show even more beautiful things in the coming days," he concluded.
