Fourth place today in the #Dauphine ITT for @cattamat, who will make an impressive jump in the general classification.
Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team's Mattia Cattaneo has had so far a difficult season where he had been unable to reach the same results he had since joining the Belgian team in 2020, however a turn of events is happening at the Critérium du Dauphiné.
“I am very happy with this result, because it reflects all the hard work I have put in on my time trial bike," he said after yesterday's effort. Cattaneo finished the day in fourth place beating the likes of Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard and jumping into second place in the overall classification only behind Wout van Aert.
This came off a strong performance at Sancy where he finished in the front group, and made a big lead to second place yesterday. "Since joining the Wolfpack, the team placed their trust in me and I am delighted I could show my progress in this discipline that I like so much, against many specialists of the time trial. Every ITT I do makes me more confident in myself, and after today," he added.
Cattaneo will now be defending his place in the podium later on in the week when the race reaches the mountainous terrain, however for the time being he can enjoy the good run of form he's finally hit just in time for the Tour de France. "I hope other good results will follow for the squad this week," he concluded.
