Primoz Roglic compares himself to a fine wine: "The older I get, the better it is"

With the start of the first Grand Tour of the year now just hours away, Primoz Roglic has been discussing his prospects of overall victory and compared himself to a fine wine.

"I'm like wine...the older it is, the better it is. You get wiser and you have more experience," the Slovenian leader of Jumbo-Visma explains prior to the stage opener at a press conference. "Evenepoel? We are going to try to make it difficult for him until Rome and I just have to cross the finish line before him every day. However, it's not just a fight between him and me because many champions are at the start of this Giro d'Italia."

A major thwart into the Maglia Rosa ambitions of Primoz Roglic has been the covid-19 crisis that has surged through the Jumbo-Visma lineup in recent weeks. Tobias Foss, Robert Gesink and Jos van Emden have all tested positive meaning their inclusion in the race was no longer possible. Roglic admits that it has been an untimely distraction.

"It's obviously not what you want, but we are dealing with this problem and we are looking for solutions. We are taking care of ourselves as best we can in any case," Roglic explains. The Slovenian is set to take to the start ramp for the opening stage time-trial at 16:35:00 CET just a minute after his biggest rival, Remco Evenepoel makes his entrance.
