Nairo Quintana was until last year the cyclist with the most stage wins in the international peloton. The Colombian cyclist accumulated a total of 20 races won throughout his career, but the fact that he has not raced for more than a year and that Primoz Roglic has not stopped winning has caused the Slovenian to catch up with him.
With his recent victory in the Vuelta a Burgos, the Jumbo-Visma rider has equalled Quintana's 20 wins. This year Quintana started as leader of this honorary classification with 3 more wins than Chris Froome and 4 over Roglic who has won the 4 competitions he has competed this season: Tirreno Adriatico, Volta a Catalunya, Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a Burgos.
Nairo, for his part, managed to win 2 races in 2022, the Tour dela Provence and the Tour of the Alpes-Maritimes. However, after testing positive for tramadol that year in the Tour de France and seeing how Arkea Samsic cancelled the renewal of his contract, he has not returned to racing, which has ended up causing Roglic to equal him and, if he wins the Vuelta a España, he can surpass him;
Although for much of the year Nairo Quintana's entourage was leaking information that assured that the former winner of the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España had offers and was close to signing for a team, the truth is that today it seems very complicated that he can return to compete in a high-level European squad;
With the 2023 season in its final stretch and after not even having been able to race the World Championship with Colombia, Nairo is focused on his business and racing popular races like the one he rode with his friend Richard Carapaz in Ecuador a few weeks ago. We'll see what 2024 has in store for him, but things are not looking good for him;
