Pierre-Luc Périchon has just concluded his career as a professional cyclist, but the 37-years-old Frenchman has no plans of sitting still for the time being. In fact, Périchon appears to be working on a futuristic project, which should lead to the birth of a new team if everything goes well.
"I have many ideas," DirectVelo reports Périchon's words. "And I have outlined an initial economic plan. I'm giving myself a year: the goal is to start on January 1, 2025, with a team with a Professional license. Even though it seems very complicated to imagine right now, things can go very quickly if you get to the right people and investors. However, if I didn't make it to 2025, I would continue to try the following year. For a PRT license, however, between 6 and 8 million euros would be needed."
"The underlying idea is that of an innovative reality, which can also be supported by individuals, through the form of collective financing. The first person interested in a cycling team is the cycling enthusiast and I would like to give these enthusiasts the opportunity to be even closer to their heroes."
The Frenchman also has a different concept in mind in terms of team structure: "Collaboration must be the basis of everything, the objective will be to give everyone a voice, from the riders to the mechanics. No hierarchy, horizontal management. If everyone finds their place, with the possibility of developing and being listened to, something good can come out of it, for everyone."
Périchon underlines: "I wouldn't want to join existing structures because it's difficult to bring innovations to things that already have their own way of being. But I know that I will have to have competent people around me, perhaps already active in the world of cycling, but not only. Clearly, I know this is a very difficult thing to do, but I want to try. Better to try and fail than to have no regrets all your life."
