Paris-Nice: Primoz Roglic consolidates lead with win at Col de Turini

Jumbo-Visma have taken yet another win at Paris-Nice as Primoz Roglic resisted the offensive put on him at the queen stage. The Slovenian had a dominant performance, controlling the attacks of INEOS and BikeExchange, and took his first win of the season at the sprint.

18 riders set off early in the day to form a strong escapee group. Besides the final ascent to the Col de Turini, the day lacked any true climbing and a group made of rouleurs, sprinters and climbers went off, including the likes of David Gaudu, Gregor Muhlberger and Thomas de Gendt. The group was never given a big lead, the peloton never slowed down with Jumbo-Visma initially putting on the chase, INEOS Grenadiers and Arkéa Samsic took responsabilities as the race then approached the final climb.

Muhlberger attacked off the front in the breakaway and resisted until 6 kilometers to go after Adam Yates put in the initial attack in the GC group. Arkéa tried to make the start of the climb hard, and Jumbo-Visma then controlled the pace throughout some kilometers.

Roglic brought back Yates' attack and shortly after put on his own, having only Daniel Martinez following in the final 5 kilometers, in which the duo worked together, having the Yates twins and Nairo Quintana behind, chasing. With 2.6 kilometers to go Simon Yates and the Colombian reconnected with the front duo. Several attacks were dealt inbetween them but differences weren't made and they arrived at the final few hundred meters together, with Roglic taking advantage of his sprinting prowess to escape the group and take a strong stage win, with Martínez and Yates completing the podium.
