Oscar Onley has been one of the breakout stars of the first week of the 2025
Tour de France. The Scottish talent proved his potential again on stage 7 this Friday afternoon, impressing on the brutal Mur-de-Bretagne to finish best of the rest, 2 seconds down on
Tadej Pogacar and
Jonas Vingegaard.
Speaking to ITV Sport in a post-stage interview immediately after crossing the line, the
Team Picnic PostNL leader was asked if he is employing the lessons learned as he goes in this Tour de France. "Yeah, I guess so," he smiles. "I wouldn't say I was thinking much on that final climb, but I feel like, when you have the legs, it is easier to make these decisions."
With no major time gaps to speak off, the GC riding was quite cagey on the Mur-de-Bretagne itself until Pogacar's vicious final kick to the line. If anything though, that only benefitted Onley's challenge. "Yeah definitely. It was cagey for the first three, but behind, I think most guys were on their limit," the Scot analyses. "Already the pull
Tim Wellens did coming into the climb was causing gaps, so that made it even harder."
