Despite the best efforts of Team Visma | Lease a Bike on stage 7 of the 2025 Tour de France, there was no denying Tadej Pogacar victory on the Mur-de-Bretagne, as the Slovenian powered to the win ahead of Jonas Vingegaard, reclaiming the Yellow Jersey in the process.
Matteo Jorgenson was, as always, closely attached to Vingegaard and Pogacar in the finale. Afterwards, he spoke in comments collected by Cyclism'Actu about just why Team Visma | Lease a Bike continues to be quite so active at the front of the peloton over recent stages. "The reason we’re using the team is to put us in position and make sure we’re up front to save energy," the American explains. "So, Jonas and I are riding the most efficient race possible with the help of the team."
In the punchy finale though, Vingegaard once again looked impressive, matching Pogacar. Once again though, the Dane proved unable to come around and actually beat his long-time rival. Nevertheless, Jorgenson continues to be impressed by his team leader. "For sure. He had to sit down and wave the white flag — but even then, he still had that kick," he smiles.
"We were just thinking about pedalling as hard as we could. There aren’t many tactics on a 15% climb, so it was just about trying to do the best we could," concludes Jorgenson, who himself remains in GC contention after 7 stages, although he admits Pogacar again proved on another level in the fight for the stage. "In a sprint you always hope that you can beat him, but there wasn’t much else to do with the headwind and that really big, wide descent. It was pretty clear it was going to play out that way — and he has an untouchable sprint. So, chapeau. That’s his territory, for sure."
