OFFICIAL: Remco Evenepoel abandons Tour de France after cracking out of GC on stage 14

Remco Evenepoel has withdrawn from the Tour de France. Disaster struck the Belgian who has been physically in difficulties over the past few days, and had no legs to match the modestly-paced peloton during the start of today's stage 14.

The Soudal - Quick-Step rider had been put into difficulties in the first kilometers of the Col du Tourmalet, after two days of difficulties in the mountains - although the Soudal - Quick-Step rider had been holding on to third place and the white jersey too.

Evenepoel got dropped from the peloton with 108 kilometers to go and the signs quickly became very bad as Valentin Paret-Peintre was given freedom to stay in the peloton and chase a result of his own. For several kilometers Evenepoel followed a small group led by his teammates a minute behind the peloton, but with 100 kilometers to go he officially stepped out of the bike and has abandoned the race. Mattias Skjelmose has also abandoned the race following an early crash.
