The Vuelta a España now has only one team left to announce the their lineup. Soudal - Quick-Step have unveiled their '8'; in the absence of Remco Evenepoel and Tim Merlier the team will be chasing stage wins from the breakaways and supporting Mikel Landa in the fight for the overall classification.
“We want to do a good Vuelta, a race we like a lot and where we had a lot of success in the past, winning the GC and dozens of stages," team DS Iljo Keisse said in a press release. "We go there with a strong, motivated and experienced team led by Mikel, who is really looking forward to it. He’s had a great season so far and will rely on a solid squad, capable of supporting him in the mountains, but also on the flat. The route is incredibly hard, which is not a surprise, but we are confident in our chances of scoring some good results”
The Basque climber has finished second at the Vuelta a Catalunya earlier this year behind Tadej Pogacar and confirmed his still excellent form by finishing fifth at a very competitive Tour de France, despite the time-trialing that it had to offer. Landa can certainly be a contender for the overall win here if he finds the same form.
The team will mostly look to seek stage wins at the same time with Kasper Asgreen, Mauri Vansevenant and William Lecerf Junior being strong riders for the many hilly days that will be in dispute. Casper Pedersen will also be an important support rider for the flat stages whilst Mattia Cattaneo, Louis Vervaeke and James Knox add experience and climbing capabilities to the Belgian team.
