According to
Burgos Burpellet BH,
Merhawi Kudus was discharged from hospital last week and is currently continuing his recovery in Burgos. The Eritrean cyclist suffered a serious fall on February 2 during the Grand Prix de La Marseillaise, in France.
The severity of his fall is underlined by the long list of injuries Kudus sustained: fractures in the costal arches, lumbar vertebrae and sacrum, as well as a pulmonary contusion with hemo-pneumothorax.
After the accident, he was admitted to a hospital in Marseilles and, a week later, was transferred to Spain in a medicalized ambulance. Once in Burgos, he was admitted to the Hospital Recoletas, where he remained under the supervision of Burgos Burpellet BH doctors for four weeks.
Finally, a week ago, he was discharged and is currently staying at the Hotel Ciudad de Burgos, along with other members of the team. This Tuesday he will undergo new medical tests and, if the results are favorable and he has the approval of the doctors, he could travel to Eritrea in the coming days.
Despite the severity of his injuries, Kudus is reportedly in a good condition, walking with crutches and intends to continue his recovery. Not having required surgery has been a positive factor in the process. However, there is still no definite timetable for his return to training and competition. Given the delicate nature of his injuries, the priority is for his recovery to follow its natural course without pressure.
